Peace initiative seeks to inspire inner city youth

The Chicago Area Project (CAP) and CAP Affiliate, South Shore Drill Team (SSDT), are partnering with The World Harmony Run to sponsor a Peace Tree Planting and March in response to recent summer violence today at 2:30 p.m. at the South Shore Drill Team Offices on 7218 S. Chicago Avenue, Chicago.

The Peace Tree planting symbolizes bringing an end to community violence and inspiring inner-city youth to spread peace in their neighborhoods. Youth from the South Shore Drill Team will perform immediately following the planting. There will also be youth testimonials on the impact of violence in their communities and the importance of the programs provided.

The Peace Initiative continues at 6 p.m. in the Roscoe Village neighborhood, where SSDT members will join World Harmony runners for a Peace March dedicated to spreading peace throughout Chicago.
